Women's basketball to host Loyalist in OCAA Round of 16

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (22-10, 15-5 OCAA) is set to play their first playoff game on home court since 2012, when they host Loyalist (6-11 OCAA) in the OCAA Round of 16 on Feb. 23 (2pm).

"I think we've dealt with enough adversity in the last week to last us a full season," head coach Sean Douglas said. "But I think it's all happening for a reason so that we have a story to tell. It's up to us to now bring that playoff intensity and focus in order to write the story."

The two sides met to the open the 2018-19 campaign in Belleville in the first game of the Loyalist Fall Classic, with the Bruins securing a 50-33 victory. Loyalist averaged 53.6 points per game during the regular season on .307.222/.669 shooting, while posting a 3-5 record at home, and 3-6 on the road. They were seventh in the league defensively, limiting opponents to 58.4 points per game on .329/.282 shooting.

Kate Raso and Brittany Mason led the attack for the Lancers, averaging 13.2 and 12.8 points respectively, with Mason also hauling down 9.1 boards per game, good for 12th in the OCAA.

The winner will advance to the OCAA Championship hosted by St. Lawrence in Kingston, and square off against the winner of the George Brown/Seneca Round of 16 matchup in the quarter-finals.

Blue notes: The last time the Double Blue played a playoff game at home, they earned an 89-53 victory over Fleming in the 2012 opening round. Sheridan is 4-0 all-time at the Davis Campus gym in the post-season, including a championship triumph as hosts in 2009.
