BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (6-2, 1-0 OCAA) pulled the curtain on the regular season on a positive note, downing St. Clair 83-68 in their OCAA West opener. 

"I can honestly say I had more nervous energy than the girls leading into the game. Regardless of outcome, you just want to konw that you prepared them well enough to go out and perform," head coach Sean Douglas said. "We made a run in the first quarter, but didn't quite zero-in on key shooters in the second, so our lead diminished. We talked about defensive assignments at halftime and we were able to slow them down and blow it open."

The Bruins shot the lights out in the opening period, connecting on 10 of 13 attempts from the floor and five free throws, as they led 25-16. A 15-0 St. Clair run gave them a 31-30 advantage, although the Double Blue would reclaim the lead at the break, up 40-39. 

The Saints scored first in the third quarter, but the Double Blue replied with an 18-0 run that led to them out-scoring the visitors 29-11 in the frame and ultimately put the put the game out of reach. Sheridan ran an efficient ball-sharing offence that connected on 58.7 per cent of their field goal attempts, with 19 assists on their 38 made buckets. 

Theresa Brown scored a game-high 28 points, while Ashley McDonald (13) and Sydney Charvis (10) were also in double figures. 

The Bruins will continue their three-game regular season-opening home stand with a pair of contests against Sault on Oct. 27 and 28.
