VAUGHAN, Ont. - It was a playoff-like atmosphere for the first meeting of the season between the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (4-0-3 OCAA) and Humber, and the rivalry battle ended exactly where it began, as each had a lead, each scored on a penalty kick, and each earned a point after a 2-2 draw.
"Any time you can come to Humber and leave with a point it's a positive result, but we had some really good chances to take the lead and we let them slip away," head coach Andrew Seuradge said.
Cyrus Rollocks got the Bruins on the board in the 10th minute, receiving a throw-in from Sundin Esperance before turning goalside, taking a step towards the six-yard box, and unleashing a cannon over Nick Frenati that found the top corner.
The next 25 minutes were more than eventful as Humber's Jaineil Hoilett scored twice in a three minute span - the second on a penalty kick - to put the Hawks in front 2-1, but the Double Blue would end up having a man advantage for nearly 55 minutes after Humber's Cody Green was sent off for seeing yellow twice in less than five minutes.
Sheridan was able to put Humber under consistent pressure in the second half, but were unable to break through until just after the hour.
Francis Ameyaw was taken down inside the six by Frentai, and Manuel Morgado converted from the spot.
The Bruins will return home to face Cambrian on Oct. 6 and Seuradge says with only three games remaining, his club must start to refine their play.
"All year we've been pretty good in our build up, but we've just been lacking something consistently in that final third," he said. "We need to start putting away chances whenever we get them. The deeper into a season you get, it becomes much more likely that those missed opportunities come back to haunt you."
