BRAMPTON, Ont. - Over the years there have been more than a few marquee matchups between the Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (26-9, 15-5 OCAA) and Algonquin (9-11 OCAA) in the playoffs, but an OCAA Round of 16 showdown on Feb. 23 is the earliest the two have met in post-season play.

"It's about execution and commitment," head coach Jim Flack said. "We want to execute our game plan and commit to the principles and philosophy that got us here." 

The last time the two sides met was in the 2014 OCAA Championship Game, in which the Bruins knocked off the previously unbeaten Thunder on home court. 

After a 7-3 first half, Algonquin struggled to find their rhythm in the second half of the season, and slumped to a 2-8 record. That included a six-game losing streak, but one that ended with a 90-74 triumph over Fleming. 

That seemed to get the Thunder sorted out, and although they came up short, they pushed Durham (14-6 OCAA) in their regular season finale.

Algonquin averaged 76 points per game during the regular season on .423/.309/.624 shooting, with David Tshimanga (13.6), Daoud Soukary (12.9), and Simon Desta (12.7) all scoring in double figures per contest. 

This will be the 33rd all-time meeting between the two, including the 16th post season game. Included in the history are two OCAA Championship Games, a national semi final, and seven OCAA semi finals.

The Bruins hold a 24-8 edge in the series, including 11-4 in the playoffs.
