Men's basketball looking for more consistency in 2nd half

BRAMPTON, Ont. - If nothing else through their first 21 games, the Sheridan Bruins (17-4, 8-3 OCAA) men's basketball team has proven to be highly entertaining, averaging 96.3 points per game while topping the century mark 11 times.

"It's been a good but not great first half," head coach Jim Flack said. "We need to develop more consistency from the opening tip through to the final whistle. We've had too many games with big passive stretches that either put us in holes we couldn't dig out of, or held us back from being able to finish off opponents sooner."

The Double Blue went undefeated in the month of October, piling up 11 straight victories, before suffering back-to-back losses in front of packed hostile road environments against Redeemer and Humber to open November. They rebounded with four straight wins, before another road setback against Niagara capped their first half.

Through 11 OCAA West contests, Sheridan has attempted 70 more free throws (348-278) than their next closer pursuer (UTM), but they haven't capitalized on those opportunities as well as they could have, ranking 16th in free throw percentage with a conversion rate of 64.7 per cent.

No single team has hit more 3-pointers than the Bruins (111), however they have given up 116 to their opposition. Meanwhile, the Sheridan pressure defence continues to be the gold standard, leading the league with 21.8 turnvoers forced per game. Should they hold on to that statistic through the remainder of the season, it would mark the third straight year they have led the league in that category.

With the exam period now complete, the Bruins will resume action with a pair of games in Buffalo this week against Bryant and Stratton - Buffalo (Dec. 20) and Villa Maria (Dec. 21).
