Roars echoed throughout the field as the Sheridan Bruins Women's Soccer team won the 2024 OCAA Women's Soccer Championship Bronze medal game against the Redeemer Royals. With a final score of 2-1, the match was held at Seneca Polytechnic's Newnham Field in Toronto, Ontario on Saturday, October 26th.
The Bruins lost to the Royals 3-1 when the two teams last encountered each other in the regular season. This time around, the Bruins opened with a one-goal lead just minutes into the game. And after a successful penalty kick, the team led 2-0 as they went into half-time. Although the Royals managed to get on the board in the second half, the Bruins maintained their lead and claimed the bronze medal in the end. Together, our women in Double-Blue had a total of eleven shots, two corner kicks, and six saves.
True to her position as team captain, third-year Jessica Jagdeo of the Advertising and Marketing Communications program, secured the two goals that ultimately resulted in the team's win. In the last 2023-24 season, Jadego was also responsible for getting the equalizer against the Niagara Knights, scoring two unassisted free kicks in the second half.
Post game, Jessica Jagdeo was also awarded Championship All-Star awward and Grace Makarewicz was awarded Player of the Match!
Congratulations to the Women's Soccer team for a momentous season!
