SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - After a two week hiatus from competition, the Sheridan Bruins cross country team was back in action at the Centennial Invitational, with the men finishing second, while the women were sixth.

"I'm happy overall with how we did based on how much mileage we've been doing over the last two weeks," head coach Danny Webster said. "We've been really pounding the pavement and our legs are kind of beat up right now. At this point in this season I'm happy with the way everyone's looking, their times are pretty consistent to where they were last year."

In a tight battle for the silver medal spot, the men scored 62 points to edge out Fanshawe (68) and Humber (69). Sheridan's four scoring runners finished in a time of 1:55:16.4, led by Cole Bond (28:14.6), and followed by Cameron Ross (28:29.4), Andrew Convery (29:14.2), and Matthew Reeve (29:18.0).

Alex Ball (29:40.6) and Quinn Middleton (29:49.5) were the Bruins' displacers, while Isaac Rondeau-Mcnair (31:14.9), Nathan Brown (32:35.4), Marcelo Campos (33:39.2), and Edward Lim (34:03.9) rounded out the Double Blue contingent.

On the women's side, Sheridan scored 102 points, 15 back of St. Clair for fifth place, with a top-four time of 1:49:56.6. Olivia Sidock (25:25.7) was the top finisher, followed by Yonta Gillespie (27:33.1), Erin Kinninmont (28:10.1), Lexy Pakenham-Troth (28:47.6), Isabel Catalli (29:49.0), and Daniela Casas (30:42.1).

The team will travel to Brock next weekend for one final tune-up race before the OCAA Championship on Oct. 27 and Webster says their final preparations will begin with some alterations to their practice.

"The next couple of weeks we're going to start tapering, getting more fit," he said. "I'm going to be making some changes as far as our training in comparison to last year, which I think will help us improve and we can only go up from here."
