Tamia Cooper-Evelyn and Katelyn Long named OCAA All-Stars

SUDBURY, Ont. - Two members of the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (14-12, 9-10 OCAA) received indivudal honours on the opening day of the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship, as Tamia Cooper-Evelyn and Katelyn Long were named OCAA All-Stars.

"I'm very proud of and happy for Tamia and Katelyn," head coach Scott Hunt said. "Obviously it's a team game and our focus this weekend is on team achievement, but it's also very nice to receive these kinds of individual awards."

Cooper-Evelyn led the club with 164 points on 132 kills, 24 aces, and eight blocks, and she was also tied for the team-lead with 132 digs. That ability to attack and defend saw her become the third player in team history to record at least 300 kills and 300 digs.

She was at her best in the Bruins' Round of 16 playoff game against Canadore, scoring 18 points while hitting at .314 and collecting 12 digs. Cooper-Evelyn posted four double-doubles this year and has nine in her career.

Long, meanwhile, put up 105 points on 68 kills, seven aces, and a team-leading 30 blocks. The 30 stuffs ranked her fifth in the OCAA and comes a year after being 10th with 33 blocks.

She now has 245 points, 153 kills, and 68 blocks in her career.
