Women's volleyball set for QF clash with Humber

SUDBURY, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (14-12, 9-10 OCAA) will begin play at the 2019 OCAA Championship hosted by Cambrian tomorrow, taking on Humber in the quarter-final (3pm).

"It's going to be a battle for sure," head coach Scott Hunt said. "They are a strong defensive team, so we're going to have some long rallies. We'll need to stay patient offensively and maintain an aggressive style of play throughout. Humber is very good at managing their errors, so we're going to have to go after it and earn our points."

Humber won both matchups during the regular season and enters the championship on a three-match winning streak, with wins over three playoffs teams in Niagara, Mohawk, and George Brown in the Round of 16.

The Hawks have a diverse and deep attack, with two players averaging at least 3.0 points per set, four that are better than 2.0/set, and six more that score at least one per set. Third-year right side Julia Watson led the club in points (181), and kills (153), and was second in digs with 136.

Libero Kyla Wilkins led the team and the OCAA in that category, with 237, good for a 3.8 per set average.

The winner will square off against the winner of the Fanshawe/Mohawk quarter-final in the semi final, while the loser will drop into the consolation bracket against the loser.
