Women's volleyball get back on court with weekend scrimmages

WINDSOR, Ont. - After more than a month since their last game action, the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (9-7, 4-5 OCAA) return to the court for scrimmages against three OCAA West schools (St. Clair, Mohawk, and Redeemer) before resuming conference play on Jan. 10.

"The format for this weekend was ideal to shake off the winter break rust and get back into the swing of things," head coach Scott Hunt said. "Our entire lineup got a ton of reps this weekend, both in drills and live-game situations. Due to the quick turnaround, it was important for us to get game-ready as quickly as possible and this weekend definitely served its purpose."

After an opening day where teams were split up and run through a series of drills, the weekend concluded with all schools squaring off in three set scrimmages. The Bruins posted positive results in all of their contests, producing 2-1 wins over Mohawk and St. Clair, and a 2-0 triumph over Redeemer.

"I was pleasantly surprised with how well we played on Saturday," Hunt said. "The results were a nice boost of confidence for us heading into this tough two-week stretch. This weekend validated the fact that we're at the same level with the top teams in our division and can win on any given night."

The Double Blue will be back in OCAA regular season action when they travel to Humber on Jan. 10.
