Women's soccer set for season-opening road swing

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team will kick-off their 2018 campaign this weekend, hitting the road to take on George Brown (Sept. 7) and Cambrian (Sept. 9).

"We're ready to go," head coach Paul Angelini said. "We had a really busy start to our pre-season schedule, playing four games in nine days, so I think that really prepared us for what we'll face once the regular season starts."

Starting out with a trio of contests against OUA competition, Sheridan suffered exhibition defeats to Waterloo, Nipissing, and Trent, before capping the pre-season with a 2-1 win against Durham.

The Bruins boast a strong returning core, including a trio of OCAA All-Stars in midfielders Kendra Challis and Madison Roberts, along with defender Marianna De Fina.

Although it will have been nearly two weeks since they saw game action when the season begins, Angelini says that was all by design.

"We played a couple of those games in some extreme conditions, between the heat and a downpour," he said. "The OCAA schedule can be pretty compacted at points and it will always test your depth. We wanted to give ourselves the best opportunity to begin the season as close to fully healthy as we could."
