Women's rugby set for quarter-final clash with Loyalist

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's rugby team (4-10 OCAA) will put their season on the line this weekend, taking on Loyalist (8-4) in the quarter-final of the OCAA women's rugby sevens championship, with the winner advancing into the medal round where they will take on Algonquin in the semi final.

"We know it's a tough match-up, but we've been preparing for two weeks now and we're ready," head coach Tamara Dixon said. "The key is getting off to a good start. We've seen plenty of times this season where a game turned on a dime, so we want to be as prepared as we can be when the game kicks off."

Sheridan and Loyalist met during the East/West crossover weekend in October, with the Lancers prevailing 30-14. Tracie Hutton and Kirsten Archer scored tries for the Bruins, while Loyalist received six tries from Bailey Meraw (3), Rachel Streekstra (2), and Cortney Wright.

The championship event will take place on home turf, with the Bruins playing in the second quarter-final of the day. Play will begin with St. Lawrence taking on Seneca, while regular season division champions Humber and Algonquin wait in the wings.
