KINGSTON, Ont. - After an abrupt end to their championship hopes in a quarter-final loss to Niagara, the Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (25-11, 18-6 OCAA) bounced back with a pair of victories to claim fifth place in the final OCAA standings. 

"We made some big strides this weekend and this season," head coach Sean Douglas said. "Obviously things didn't get off to the start we envisioned on Thursday night, but we showed a lot of perseverance in shaking that off and closing out the year with back-to-back wins. I'm really proud of the growth we've shown this year, and I think the experience we've gained will really help us strengthen the foundation for this program."

In the consolation final, the Double Blue shot better than 50 per cent from the floor, 70 per cent from the 3-point line, and forced 22 turnovers on their way to an 82-56 triumph over Algonquin. It was a Saturday matchup that perhaps both sides had thought of, albeit a bit earlier in the day's proceedings than they would have preferred. 

Sydney Charvis led the way with a season-high 27 points, while Theresa Brown scored 24 on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range, in just 19 minutes of action. Ashley McDonald was also in double figures with 10 points. 

The Bruins earned a spot in the consolation final, thanks to a gritty performance against St. Lawrence where they were not at their best offensively - connecting on just 21-of-77 attempts (27.3 per cent) - but managed to stifle the championship hosts, holding them under 30 per cent shooting, and to a pair of single digit quarters in a 56-50 win. 

Sheridan led by as many as 16, but saw St. Lawrence close the game on a 13-3 run to narrow the margin.
