Women's basketball knocked out of title contention in QF loss to Niagara

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (23-11, 16-6 OCAA) were knocked out of OCAA title contention, after suffering a 69-55 loss to Niagara in the quarter-final.

Slow starts had plagued the Double Blue in their two regular season meetings against the Knights, but they seemed to correct that this time around and trailed 18-16 after the first quarter. A 7-0 Sheridan run put the Bruins in front early in second, but would fall behind 33-27 by halftime, with Niagara shifting the balance of power after a 9-0 run to answer.

The margin throughout the third period was as high as 11 and as narrow as four, but Sheridan was never able to cut it back to a one possesssion game. Another 9-0 Niagara run early in the fourth opened a 14-point spread which they would maintain until the finish.

Sheridan now drops into the Consolation side of the bracket and will play the hosts from St. Lawrence on March 1 (3pm).
