Theresa Brown and Sydney Charvis named OCAA All-Stars

KINGSTON, Ont. - In the midst of one of the biggest one-year turnarounds in program history, the Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (23-10, 16-5 OCAA) saw two members honoured for their season accomplishments, as Theresa Brown and Sydney Charvis were named OCAA All-Stars.

"I'm really proud of what Theresa and Sydney have accomplished this year," head coach Sean Douglas said. "We know we can count on them to produce at both ends of the floor every night, and I'm really happy for them to receive this recognition."

Brown has taken a leap in her third year, posting a team and career-high 16.9 points per game, while also setting new personal bests in rebounds (5.5/game), and steals (2.5 per contest). She has also risen up the Bruins' all-time scoring list throughout the season and now sits third with 823 points.

She was at her best in the final regular season meeting against Niagara, when she nearly went for a triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and seven steals.

Charvis has also made major strides this season, not only in facilitating the offence, but also in leading the charge defensively. The second-year point guard put up 15.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game, and did it all while turning the ball over less frequently and fouling less often.

Her best performance came in a home win over Lambton on Nov. 24 when she scored nine of her season-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to secure the result.

Blue notes: After posting an 11-16 record a year ago, the Double Blue has more than doubled their win total this season. The increase of 12 wins represents the second highest one-year gain in team history. The 2007-08 team holds that mark, having seen their record improve to 35-4 from 16-10 in 2006-07.
