Fast start lifts women's basketball past Mohawk

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (21-8, 15-3 OCAA) exploded for 31 first-quarter points and held Mohawk to 13 points or less in each quarter, on their way to a 77-43 triumph.

The lead swelled to 27 at the half with the Double Blue on top 48-21. Although they slowed offensively in the second half - scoring just 29 points - their defence stayed at a high level, allowing just one more point than in the first half.

Sheridan connected on 28-of-70 attempts (40 per cent) from the floor, while limiting Mohawk to 15-of-57 shooting (26.3 per cent).

Sydney Charvis scored a game-high 22 to lead the way for the Bruins. In the final week of the regular season, the Double Blue faces a pair of stiff tests in the form of the two teams - Fanshawe (17-1 OCAA) and Humber (16-2 OCAA) - just above them in the standings.
