BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (20-8, 14-3 OCAA) overcame a mid-game offensive stagnation by scoring 30 fourth-quarter points to put away Redeemer 74-61.

"I think we had some long stretches where their was a lid on the basket and we couldn't get anything going offensively, which is rare for us at home," head coach Sean Douglas said. "But our defence held firm which made it pretty much a non factor. We managed to knock down big shots in the second half when we needed to in order to build our lead and secure the victory." 

After leading by as many as 19 in the first half, the Bruins saw their advantage narrowed to five early in the fourth quarter. Throughout the second and third, the Bruins had combined for just 24 points on 11-of-48 shooting from the floor (22.9 per cent). 

Fortunately their work at the defensive end - Redeemer made just three of their 17 field goal attempts in the second period - and on the glass - holding 32-27 rebounding margin during that 20-minute stretch and 51-43 overall - kept Sheridan in control entering the final period.

Theresa Brown then took over, scoring 10 of her game-high 25 and the team's 30 points in the frame, as the Double Blue pulled away. 

Sydney Charvis was also in double figures for the Bruins, scoring 16 points and notching her first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. 

Blue notes: The win gives the team 20 on the season, marking the first time since the 2011-12 campaign that they have reached that plateau. Sydney Charvis has now scored 501 points in her career, making her the ninth player in team history to hit that mark.
