MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Three days after suffering their first conference defeat of the season, the Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (10-3, 5-1 OCAA) bounced back with a 73-52 triumph over UTM. 

"We started the game very slowly and with a lack of energy, allowing them to open on an 11-1 run," head coach Sean Douglas said. "Once we called a timeout, we re-grouped and established our pace. After that, we dug ourselves out of that hole fairly quickly. We defended the 3-ball well and used our depth to our advantage, getting some of their key players in early foul trouble."

After putting just single point on the board in a little more than four minutes to open the game, the Bruins rebounded with a 16-0 run and held UTM to just one bucket over the final 6:12 to lead 20-13 at the end of the first quarter. The home side narrowed the margin to three - Sheridan leading 20-17 - but the Double Blue answered with a 10-0 run, on their way to a 15-point cushion (38-23) at recess. 

Any thoughts of a UTM comeback were squashed in the third quarter, as the Double Blue limited them to 5-24 shooting from floor (20.8 per cent), including 1-9 (11.1 per cent) from 3-point range.  

Four Bruins hit double figures, led by Sydney Charvis (17) and followed by Ashley McDonald (16), Theresa Brown (13), and Tamya Rowe (12). 

It now steps up a critical early season showdown against fellow joint division leaders from Fanshawe (Nov. 16, 6pm).
