Back to Back: Paulo Lokoro Takes Home Another Gold at the 2023 OCAA Cross Country Championships

Paulo Lokoro—a second year in the Social Services program—acquires another exceptional result this cross-country season, finishing first place at the Conestoga OCAA Championships on October 28th. Out of 80 participants in the Men's 8km event, Lokoro had the fastest running time of 25:09, more than 43 seconds ahead of second place. This makes it his second gold medal at the OCAA Championships after winning in 2022. After his outstanding win, Lokoro heads to the CCAA Cross Country Running National Championships held at Dalhousie AC on November 10th.

Lokoro remains undefeated. Having a great start to the season, he won the Seneca Invitational with a run time of 27:37. Subsequently, he finished first place at both the Fanshawe and Centennial Invitationals. Every runner's individual time contributes to the team's overall finish. Together, the men's cross country team earned a spot in the top 5 at every Invitational this year.

Athletic Director Jim Flack says of Lokoro's achievements, "We could not be prouder of Paulo and our Cross Country team. They are truly representative of the excellence in competition and academia that Sheridan exhibits in the arts, trades, sports and every other program in double-blue."

"Paulo's story is one that needs to be told over and over. It's a story of what can happen when we treat each other as world citizens and what happens when people of Paulo's character are given the opportunity to excel. I can't wait to see how our runners, including Paulo, place at the national race."

Good luck to Paulo Lokoro, Mette Siemens, and Kinnon Ringler, who all qualified and are set to race at the upcoming 2023 CCAA Championships.
