STUDY. COMPETE. GRADUATE. SUCCEED: The 2023 Bruins Cross-Country Team

The cross-country season began on September 22nd at the 2023 Seneca Invitational, where numerous post-secondary varsity runners lined up at the course's starting line and embarked on a race to the finish.

Cross-country running is both an individual and team sport, judged on race times by a point-scoring method. While Sheridan's cross-country teams trained hard for the season, they applied the teamwork and perseverance they learned from the classroom into athletic spirit as they competed on open-air grounds.

Invitationals require the men's and women's teams to complete 8km and 6km courses, respectively. Each member's individual results have placed the teams in the top 5 at every Invitational this year, with the men's team finishing in 4th place and the women's team finishing in 5th place at the most recent Centennial Invitational on October 14th.

Among our cross-country roster of talented student-athletes, Sheridan is proud to congratulate Paulo Lokoro, a second-year student in the Social Services program, for finishing first place in the men's individual category at every Invitational this year.

"He's in great shape," said Coach Mohammed. "Very confident, very humble, very determined to help the team--he races with a big smile. If you were there last weekend, he's running up the hill, and everyone else is dying, but he's there with a grin."

Lokoro's wins at Seneca, Fanshawe and Centennial have secured him a spot at the OCAA's 2023 Provincial Championships, held on October 28th at Conestoga College.

"Everyone on campus knows him," said Coach Mohammed. "He's just a great person to be around."

Rain or shine, the Bruin's cross-country teams have extensively displayed their excellence throughout the season.
