Men's soccer downs Durham to reach OCAA semi final

NORTH YORK, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (7-0-5 OCAA) knocked off the defending champions from Durham 3-0, propelling them into the OCAA semi final against Algonquin.

"It was a really strong performance by our boys. We were able to string together some really good attacks and never allowed ourselves to be in too much danger," head coach Andrew Seuradge said.

The Bruins struck first in the 23rd minute, with a cross from the right wing being headed away by a Durham defender where Anthony Wright volleyed it on target and Cyrus Rollocks re-directed it towards the bottom corner. With the ball bouncing, Francis Ameyaw won a race to tap it home on the mouth of the goal.

Durham nearly pulled level in the 43rd minute, with Nigel Buckley's attempt ear-marked for the top corner before Chester Ashby tipped it over the bar, and the 1-0 scoreline would remain at the interval.

Rollocks added the second tally for the Bruins in 73rd minute, slotting the rebound after Manuel Morgado's left-footed attempt from 30-yards out was stopped. Morgado would cement the victory from the spot in the 84th minute, converting after Michael Krzeminski was fouled in the area.

Having now dispatched third place Centennial and second place Durham, the Double Blue continue their climb up the East Division ladder with a semi final showdown against the regular season champions from Algonquin (7-1-2 OCAA).

The Thunder boast a stout defence, allowing just seven goals all season, and a potent attack with 41 goals. They beat the hosts from George Brown 5-0 in the quarter-final.
