Three second half goals powers men's soccer into quarter-final

SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - It took until the second half for the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (6-0-5 OCAA) to really get going, but three goals after the interval powered them to a 3-0 win over Centennial and into the OCAA quarter-finals.

"It was a good performance in the second half, but we need to start stringing together that kind of play for 90 minutes," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "That said, there's no such thing as a bad playoff win. So we'll take this one and try to improve for next weekend."

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Double Blue asserted control after the break with 18 of their 22 shot attempts coming in the second half.

On the heels of being named CCAA Athlete of the Week and an OCAA Star of the Week for a hat-trick performance against UTM on Oct. 10, Rahim Thorpe did the deed again with another treble, while Chester Ashby made six saves to post the clean sheet.

Sheridan now joins a Central Division-heavy field in the OCAA Championship, with hosts George Brown, Humber, UTM, Algonquin, Fanshawe, Niagara, and reigning champions Durham set to clash for the provincial crown at Esther Shiner Stadium in Toronto from Oct. 25-27.

Quarter-final matchups will be set after the draw is completed Monday.
