OAKVILLE, Ont. - They went through the regular season unbeaten, but ultimately one too many draws kept the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (5-0-5 OCAA) from claiming the Central Division title after a 1-1 stalemate against their rivals from Humber.
"It's kind of the story of our season within this one game," head coach Andrew Seuradage said. "We let a couple of Grade-A scoring opportunities slip away in the first half and when you leave the door open like that - especially against quality opponents like Humber - it's extremely difficult to make one goal stand up."
Playing his final game on home turf, Manuel Morgado opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, running onto a ball at the top of the box and hammering into the bottom left corner.
With a strong wind at their backs, the Double Blue had plenty of chance to build at sizeable advantage at the interval, but couldn't find the touch necessary.
Humber was all over the Bruins to start the second half, and was ultimately rewarded with a 70th minute equalizer when Aziah Reid was able to tap home the rebound after Federico Leal's free kick.
Sheridan will now travel to Centennial on Oct. 20, with the winner earning a spot in next week's OCAA Championship at George Brown. Although he knows there may be a tendency to lament some of the misses in this one, Seuradge says he has cautioned his lot that none of that matters now.
"This one's done," he said. "We can't go back in time and replay it, so we're shifting all of our focus to Centennial."
Blue notes: Prior to the game a Senior Day celebration was held for Morgado and Sheldon Rodgers, who are completing their Bruin careers.
