OAKVILLE, Ont. - With the opportunity to put themselves in the driver's seat for the Central Division crown heading into the season's final two weeks, the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (4-0-4 OCAA) were unable to make a 1-0 lead stand up and settled for a 1-1 draw against Cambrian.
"We learned a couple of important lessons today. First, and we talk about this all the time, is that we need to take care of our chances when we get them," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "But maybe more critical is that there are going to be times when we don't have our A-game - and we definitely didn't today - but we need to dig deep and find a way to get things done."
After the game remained without a goal past the hour, Sheridan opened the scoring in the 67th minute as Manuel Morgado slid a free kick along the ground where Francis Ameyaw was able to run onto it and beat the keeper on the near side.
An eventful final act began with an 80th minute equalizer - a Cambrian corner kick rattled off a shoulder, a knee, and one player even whiffed, before an unmarked player was able to blast it home - and ended with both teams reduced to 10 and nine men respectively after three red cards were handed out.
Having played four games in an 11 day stretch, the Double Blue now gets a short respite, hosting UTM on Oct. 10.
They will close out the regular season one week later when they host Humber.
