Men's soccer post two clean sheets in tie and win to open season
SUDBURY, Ont. - It took more than 160 minutes of action for the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (1-0-1 OCAA) to score their first goal of the season, but that's all it took for them to complete an unbeaten weekend, after playing to a scoreless draw against George Brown and blanking Cambrian 1-0.

"We defended well in both games, but clearly we need to do a better job of capitalizing when we're able to create scoring opportunities," head coach Andrew Seuraadge said. "If you don't score, you can't win. But at least we come out of this weekend with four points."

The season opener against George Brown was a clash of two teams with high expectations this season, and although it didn't appear on the scoreboard, it had all of the intensity befitting such a match-up. Both sides had multiple scoring opportunities, but both goalkeepers made critical saves to maintain the stalemate.

Elijah de Los Santos picked up the clean sheet for the Bruins, and saved perhaps his best stop for the dying moments, denying 2017 Central Division Golden Boot winner Filipe Vilela on a breakaway in second half stoppage time.

The contest against Cambrian was also without a goal until the 72nd minute, when Rahim Thorpe finally broke through, and Chester Ashby kept the sheet clean to preserve the 1-0 triumph.

The Double Blue will travel to Conestoga on Sept. 13.
