BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (25-7, 14-3 OCAA) built a 12-point lead with 6:30 remaining, and held off a hard-charging Redeemer squad down the stretch to claim a 102-96 victory.

"I'm very pleased with the consistency of the effort," head coach Jim Flack said. "The ball was shared, the defensive responsibilities were honoured, and the group performance rose to the occassion." 

After opening the final frame with a four-point cushion, the Bruins used a 7-0 run - capped by a pair of 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Jemol Edwards and Romar Subban - that allowed the Double Blue to stay at least three possessions clear for the remainder of the period until the final seconds. 

Prior to that, Sheridan had been in control throughout much of the contest, but Redeemer was never far behind. The home side had pushed their advantage to nine on three different occassions in the first half, only to see the visitors trim it all the way back to a one-point game (50-49) with 6:14 left in the third. 

While Redeemer was able to maintain a sizeable advantage in rebounding (45-33), it was somewhat mitigated by the Bruins' ability to force turnovers (23) while limiting their own (eight). 

Jemol Edwards scored a game-high 27 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor, while making 19 trips to the free throw line. Nick Campbell extended his streak of scoring at least 20 to four games, finishing with 26, with Kahleek Bakari-Whyte (19) and Keenan Danso-Dapaah (12) also hitting double figures for Sheridan.

The Bruins are next in action on Feb. 8 when they travel to Mohawk. 

Blue notes: Nick Campbell moved into the top 5 on Sheridan's all-time scoring list and now has 919 points in his career as a Bruin. He became the seventh player to top 900 points and moved passed Dylan Periana (905) and Shane Bascoe (907). The victory also marked the 20th time in the 26 seasons since Jim Flack became head coach that the Bruins have notched at least 25 wins.
