TORONTO, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (19-7, 8-3 OCAA) wrapped up play for 2018 with a pair of wins (Centennial, Seneca) and a loss (George Brown) in the OCAA East/West Holiday Series.

"While it might look like a 2-1 record is acceptable, I tend to believe that lowered standards mean lower results," head coach Jim Flack said.

The Double Blue were down at least one key rotation player in every contest, but Flack downplayed their significance in the results.

"Injuries are an excuse for an individual, not a program," he said.

Sheridan opened with a 91-85 win over Centennial, where they had grind down the stretch after leading by 13 at the break. They concluded day one with a 97-90 triumph over Seneca, out-scoring the reigning OCAA and national champions 77-66 over the final three quarters.

George Brown shot a blistering 16-36 (44.4 per cent) from 3-point range, while the Bruins connected on just 5 of 26 attempts from deep as the tournament hosts and East Division-leaders claimed a 105-87 victory.

It proved to be the most lopsided of three meetings between the two thus far this year, with Sheridan having claimed a pair of wins (101-98 in double overtime and 74-62) in a five-day stretch in October.

Kahleek Bakari-Whyte (20.3) and Nick Campbell (20.0) paced the Bruins' attack by combining for 44 per cent of the 91 points they averaged in the three games.

The Bruins will resume OCAA West play with a tough road swing through southwestern Ontario for a games against Lambton (Jan. 12) and St. Clair (Jan. 13).

Blue notes: The Bruins need just one more win to hit 20 on the campaign, which would mark the 25th time in 27 seasons that Flack's team topped 20 wins. In calendar 2018, Sheridan put up a 30-11 record. After scoring at least 100 points in 11 games in October and November, the Double Blue didn't hit the century mark in seven December contests.
