Men's and women's soccer come up short in home tournament

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Sheidan Bruins soccer teams put up strong performances in their first game action in three weeks, but ultimately neither the men's team (8-1-4) nor the women's team (9-2-2) advanced past the pool stage in the Sheridan Invitational.

For the men's team, it was a matter of not finishing. They did post a positive result against the eventual champions in the form of a 2-2 draw against Fanshawe, but also drew with UTM (1-1) and Redeemer (1-1) while picking up a win against Centennial (1-0).

Meanwhile the women's team had gotten off to a 3-0 start after disposing of Redeemer (1-0), Centennial (3-0), and UTM (2-1), before falling to Fanshawe (2-0). Ultimately that was the difference in not advancing, as the Falcons went on to play for the title instead.

Both men's and women's finals were won by Fanshawe, with George Brown earning the runner-up finish in both.

The Sheridan Invitational concludes the tuneup section of the indoor campaign, with regional play set to begin the week of March 4. Both men's and women's team will be in action on the fourth day of regionals, in Pool D.
