Bruins celebrate Convocation week with 36 student athlete graduates

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - The Sheridan Athletics and Recreation department had a banner convocation week, celebrating the graduation of 36 student athletes, with all 10 varsity teams represented during the ceremonies.

"Convocation week is always a fantastic week for us," athletic director Jim Flack said. "We are tremendously proud of all the graduates that walked across the stage over the last few days and all of the effort that brought them to this point."

Among the 36 graduates, 12 are walking away with a bachelor's degree, including cross country runner Alexandra D'Oliveira (Bachelor of Craft and Design) who delivered the valedictorian address during the Faculty of Applied Animation, Arts and Design convocation ceremony on Tuesday evening.

The women's rugby team led the way with 10 graduates, while the most common credential issued was a Bachelor of Athletic Therapy, which was earned by nine student athletes.

On the competitive side of the ledger, graduates combined to win seven OCAA championships, three CCAA medals, seven OCAA/CCAA All-Star awards, 21 OCAA All-Academic awards, 10 CCAA national scholar athlete awards, and four Sheridan athletes of the year.

The majority of the graduates came from the Faculty of Applied Health & Community Studies with 22, followed by the Faculty of Applied Science & Technology (6), the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design (3), the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (3) and rounded out with a pair from the Pilon School of Business.
