Women's basketball falls to Humber in regular season finale

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (22-10, 15-5 OCAA) was up to the challenge defensively in their regular season finale, but couldn't get on track at the offensive end and suffered a 58-47 loss to Humber.

"I couldn't be more proud of how our girls executed at the defensive end, they followed the game plan perfectly," head coach Sean Douglas said. "We held their top scorers to seven points combined, we ran them off the 3-point line, forced them into 30 turnovers. Unfortunately we couldn't put it together at the offensive end and we shot poor percentages from the field and the free throw line. We can't beat good teams without offensive performances, so that's something we'll have to fix for next week's playoff game. I think tonight it was a mix of nervous energy with lack of focus, but the effort was definitely there."

After Humber connected on 8-of-14 attempts in the first quarter, the Bruins really clamped down and held them to 17-of-50 the rest of the way.

Theresa Brown scored a team-high 12 points, while Sydney Charvis was also in double figures with 11.

The team will now host an OCAA Round of 16 contest on Feb. 23.
