Bernie Custis was hired by former athletic director John Cruickshank in 1972 and was at Sheridan until 1980. He came from the Burlington Braves of the Junior ORFU where in eight years his teams won 86 games with only 14 losses. A graduate of Syracuse University, Custis played in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger Cats and ultimately became a public school principal in Stoney Creek.
