Sheridan Bruins Hall of Fame Induction Class for 2023

Sheridan Athletics announces the 2023 class of inductees to the Bruins Varsity Hall of Fame, with Kris Lindvik (Athlete), Shane Bascoe (Athlete), and the 2005-2006 Women's Soccer Team set to be enshrined during our annual Homecoming Weekend at the Trafalgar Campus on September 30th, 2023.

Kris Lindvik, Athlete (Downhill Skiing)

Hailing from the town of Oakville and a graduate of the neighbouring White Oaks High School, Kris Lindvik's local roots created a source of pride and inspiration that extended beyond the Bruin community.

Lindvik's journey at Sheridan as a downhill skiing phenom has earned her a well-deserved induction into the Sheridan Bruins Hall of Fame. Her legacy was cemented in 1974 when she was named the Bruins Athlete of the Year.

Those who witnessed Kris' ability to navigate the slopes were treated to the sight of a fearless athlete who understood how to create optimal speed while dancing on the edge of crashing. Kris' exploits were impossible for the competition to match. During her remarkable tenure with the Sheridan Bruins downhill alpine skiing team from 1972 to 1975, Kris Lindvik showcased a level of dominance in her sport- she never lost a downhill race. There are few athletes in the history of the OCAA who have achieved an unblemished record.

Kris Lindvik's contribution to the history and passion surrounding Bruin athletics will now be enshrined in the Varsity Hall of Fame.

Shane Bascoe, Athlete (Basketball)

Shane Bascoe joined the Sheridan Bruins men's basketball program in 1996 and immediately took a leadership role, playing in the point guard/shooting guard position.Bascoe was an OCAA League All-Star in each of his four seasons with the Bruins and was named an All-Canadian an incredible three times. His ability to change the course of any game with defence, scoring or rebounding was so outstanding that he was invited to a Canadian national team training camp.

The Bruins won back-to-back OCAA championships in 1998 and 1999, with Bascoe being named Championship MVP in 1998. In the same season, Shane led the Central Region in scoring, averaging an impressive 21.5 points per game.

In 1999, Sheridan took home the bronze medal at CCAA nationals, and Bascoe was named to the Championship All-Star team. That year, he was also named the OCAA Athlete of the Year.

Bascoe was proudly named OCAA's Male Athlete of the Year in 1999-2000 and deservedly became a member of the OCAA Men's Basketball All-Millennium team.

In 2005, Bascoe became the head coach of Sheridan Bruin's women's basketball team, where he rebuilt the women's program into a juggernaut. During his coaching career at Sheridan, he guided the Bruins to three consecutive OCAA Championships, one provincial silver and a CCAA final. Shane's threefold contributions to Sheridan's celebrated basketball history as a student, an athlete, and a coach make him a cornerstone member of the Sheridan Bruins Hall of Fame.

2005-2006 Women's Soccer Team

The 2005-2006 Bruins women's soccer team was a unique compilation of exciting and competitive players who came together to have one of the best soccer records in Bruins history.

The team finished second in the always OCAA's challenging West region, with a regular season record of 6 wins, 1 tie, and 1 loss. The double-blue sailed through their crossover game, beating Fleming College 2-0. In their now infamous semi-final game, Sheridan faced Durham College, the back-to-back defending provincial champions who had another undefeated regular season record in the East region. Durham went ahead in the first few minutes and scored their first goal: 1-0. It wasn't until late in the first half when Nadene Boothe went on a mazy dribble from half and smoothly slotted the ball in the corner to tie the game. With just 15 minutes to go, Durham scored to make it 2-1. The situation looked grim, but Sheridan kept pressuring, and with remaining, April Leggett- the game MVP- scored from just inside the box to tie it at 2-2. The game went into a sudden death overtime, and after just a few minutes, Sheridan came out on top when Leggett scored a penalty kick to win the game and take down the two-time defending champions, 3-2.

In the final, Sheridan went up against Fanshawe, who had finished first in the West Region. It was anyone's game; the Bruins employed their speed and skill but could not penetrate the net. Fanshawe was awarded a penalty kick late in the first half after a clumsy tackle, and Fanshawe scored 1-0. Sheridan brought their best game and fought extremely hard with repeated attempts to equalize the score to no avail. Sheridan proudly took home silver that day, knowing they fought their hardest with a cruel ending to a remarkable season.

Sheridan is extremely proud to honour the 2005-2006 Bruins with a team entry into the Varsity Hall of Fame.
