SAINTE-THERESE, Que. - The Sheridan Bruins cross country teams laced up in a national championship race for the first time, with the men earning a ninth place finish, while the women finished 20th.

Cole Bond finished in a time of 26:41.0, good for 15th place.

Rounding out the top 4 for the Double-Blue were Matt Reeve (56th), Alex Ball (58th), and Brendan Saunders (64th).

The Bruins' 175 point score was equal to Humber's in eighth place, but were displaced as a result of Humber's fifth and sixth place runners (Chris Tomlinson, 60th, Graiden Maynard, 73rd) finishing higher than Sheridan's (Garrett Murphy, 77th, Andrew Convery, 80th).

Erin Kinninmont posted the top result for the women's team, completing her run in 25:46.2, good for 71st position.

She was followed by Marla Brown in 82nd, Alexandra D'Oliveira in 90th, and Monique Parlevliet in 95th.

Blue notes: cross country began at Sheridan in 1968, but laid dormant for more than 20 years until the program was revived in 2014.
The national championship did not begin until 2002. Sheridan was the first program in OCAA history to have claimed team championships in the men's and women's competitions, and one of eight overall.

Although it is the first time Sheridan has fielded teams in the event, it's not the first time a Bruin has competed at nationals. Kinninmont qualified to compete at the CCAA Championship hosted by Sault College as an individual last year. by virtue of her top 25 finish in the OCAA Championship. She went on to place 64th in the event, completing her 6km run in 21:43.
