BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (27-6, 17-4 OCAA) clinched their spot in the OCAA Championship, downing Georgian 106-78 in a first round playoff match-up. 

"Our bigs don't get the credit they deserve," head coach Jim Flack said. "Game after game they watch the guards launch 3-ball after 3-ball over their heads. I have no problem with shooting a lot of threes, none at all. But a lot of our success this year has been due to the work our bigs put in on the glass. That unselfishness is key to our system. It's very much like being an offensive lineman. It's a thankless role, but you can't win without them." 

For much of the first three quarters, it was a game of runs. Late in the first, Georgian trimmed the Sheridan advantage to three (22-19) only for the Bruins to respond with a 15-0 run to close the frame and open the second.

Nearing the interval the Grizzlies had chipped away to make it an eight-point game, but Sheridan closed the half on an 8-2 run to take a 51-37 lead into the break. 

In the third period, the visitors couldn't sustain any runs long enough to pull within striking distance, and after the Double Blue took an 85-61 advantage into the fourth quarter, the dam broke. 

The Bruins opened the final period on an 11-0 run, holding Georgian scoreless until the 4:51 mark and without a field goal until 3:51.  

Jemol Edwards led Sheridan with 20 points, while Nick Campbell (15), Nav Deol (12), and Terell Carr (12) were all in double figures.

Tre Anderson had a game-high 11 boards, as the Double Blue were a plus-17 (56-39) in rebounding margin. 

Sheridan advances to the OCAA Championship hosted by Niagara (March 1-3) and draws a familiar opponent in the quarter-final: the Fanshawe squad they earned a hard-fought 85-82 victory over in Wednesday's regular season finale. 

"The OCAA tournament will be fun," Flack said. "It really is a wide open field, and Fanshawe will be a big challenge to start."
