Women's volleyball battles back in 5-set victory

ANCASTER, Ont. - After twice battling back from down a set, the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (12-11, 7-9 OCAA) defeated Redeemer 3-2 (22-25, 28-26, 23-25, 25-12, 15-13) and locked up sixth place in the final OCAA West standings.

"I'm really proud of this performance," head coach Scott Hunt said. "The atmosphere in this gym is something else, but we rose to the occasion and executed when we needed to in order to secure this win."

The Bruins were less efficient than Redeemer offensively, hitting at .214 in comparison to .269 from the home side, but were more prolific, notching four more kills (48-44) and four more aces (14-10).

Tara Aune scored a season-high 19 points on 16 kills and three aces, while Tamia Cooper-Evelyn posted her second double-double of the season with 18 points (15 kills, 2 aces, 1 block) and 10 digs.

Blue notes: A pair of Bruins reached milestones in the victory. For Hunt it was his 50th OCAA win, including the regular season and playoffs, while Cooper-Evelyn became the third player in team history to record 300 kills and 300 digs.
