Women's volleyball downs Redeemer in home opener

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (8-2, 3-1 OCAA) will go into a two week break on a three-match winning streak after downing Redeemer 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-9) in their home opener.

Sheridan looked to be in command in the latter stages of the opening set, but Redeemer managed to pull level at 23-23. The visitors squandered their opportunity, however, with a pair of service errors and a Tara Aune ace on set point punctuated the 26-24 win.

The Double Blue were in control for much of the second set and ran away with the third.

The Bruins hit at .274 in the match, connecting on 28 kills with eight errors. Rachel Abrahams led the way with 11 points (seven kills, four aces), while Tamia Cooper-Evelyn was also in double figures with 10 points (eight kills, two blocks).

A scheduling quirk has the Bruins off for two weeks when they host Conestoga on Nov. 17. That contest kicks off a busy stretch, when they play five times in 16 days to close out the first semester.
