Women's volleyball sweeps Cambrian, Boreal for first conference victories

SUDBURY, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (7-2, 2-1 OCAA) bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Mohawk in their OCAA West opener last weekend by downing Cambrian and Boreal, without dropping a set in either.

Against Cambrian they won the opener, 25-13, escaped 26-24 in the second, and slammed the door 25-8 in the third. Tamia Cooper-Evelyn led the attack with 14 points (10 kills, three aces, one block), while Tara Aune (nine kills, two aces), and Rachel Abrahams (six kills, four aces) were also in double figures.

Sheridan put up 56 points of total offence while hitting at .324, in comparison to Cambrian's 24 points and .060 hitting percentage.

The narrative was similar against Boreal, with a comfortable first and tight second set, before holding their opponents to single digits (25-9) in the third.

After a three-match road swing to begin conference play, the Double Blue will be on their own court for the month of November, beginning with their home opener on Nov. 3 (1pm) against Redeemer. After that they will host Conestoga (Nov. 17), Humber (Nov. 21), and Niagara (Nov. 25).
