Women's volleyball adds more setting experience with third-year transfer

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team announced another new addition to the 2018-19 roster today, with third-year setter Celine Blanchette (St. Catharines, ON) - an incoming transfer from Humber - pledging her commitment to the Double Blue.

"We are thrilled Celine decided to continue her post secondary education at Sheridan. Her experience playing at the collegiate level will allow for a smooth transition into our line up," head coach Scott Hunt said. "I'm convinced she has ice in her veins as she always seems to execute and stay composed in big games and pressure situations."

Blanchette comes to Sheridan with a winning pedigree, having won two OCAA Championships with Humber, in addition to an OFSAA crown (2015) and three SOSSA titles with Eden High School.

In her club career, she won three provincial medals and a tier two national gold, having spent time with the Niagara Rapids (13U - 17U) before suiting up for the Burlington Blaze in her 18U campaign.

She will be reunited on the Bruins with Rachel Abrahams, with whom she was a teammate at Eden and with the Rapids.

"Sheridan is the best school to allow me to add to my skillset and resume to further me in my career," Blanchette said. "They provide me with a course that is hard to find at other colleges but they also have a volleyball program with a coach who can give me even more knowledge and skills for the game I love."

Last year, Blanchette led Humber with 301 assists (7.34/set), racked up a career-high 41 helpers in a 3-1 road victory at Niagara on Jan. 18, and, in her two seasons for the blue and gold, she accumulated 432 assists.

She has accepted an offer to Sheridan's Social Service Worker - Gerontology program at the Trafalgar Campus in Oakville.
