Women's volleyball close out regular season with Sudbury sweep

SUDBURY, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (18-9, 11-7 OCAA) closed out their regular season with a pair of 3-1 wins over Cambrian and Boreal.

"We didn't have our best stuff this weekend, but we fought through it and found a way to win," head coach Scott Hunt said.

The Double Blue opened the weekend with a 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20 win over Cambrian.

Taylor Ley scored a season-high 23 points (18 kills, three blocks, two aces) and ran her streak of consecutive matches scoring in double figures to seven.

Tamia Cooper-Evelyn (10 kills, three blocks, two aces) and Tara Aune (10 kills) were also in double figures for the Bruins.

Sheridan followed that up with a 25-8, 25-10, 22-25, 25-13 win over Boreal in their regular season finale.

Katelyn Long scored a team-high 10 points, while Joelle Parnham notched a double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs.

With their opponent - and whether they will travel or host - still to be determined by games still to be played, Hunt was able to look back on some positives from the year.

"Reflecting on the entire regular season, we were very satisfied with our performance," he said. "Our team goal was to finish 11-7 and with more wins in the second semester than the first, so we achieved that goal bang on. I'm super proud of what we have accomplished, but now we have to create new goals and prep for the playoffs."

Blue notes: Parnham broke her own single-season team record for assists, completing 2017-18 with 478 helpers. Ley, meanwhile, established a new team record for stuff blocks with 44, bettering the mark of 30 held jointly by Melissa Cappelletti (2012-13), Elena Stefanc (2010-11), and Alicia Spalding (2007-08).
