Women's volleyball outlast Mohawk in five sets

HAMILTON, Ont. - Playing for the first time in more than a week, the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (16-8, 9-6 OCAA) didn't put forward their best performance, but managed to outlast Mohawk in five sets.

"This match was a bit odd in the sense that none of the first four sets were really close. Each team team took turns controlling the serve-pass battle, so momentum shifted a couple times throughout the match," head coach Scott Hunt said. "I'm proud of the way we stayed positive and kept our energy up the whole match. It would have been an easy out for us to pack it in after we started to struggle at times, but we fought through it and found a way to win."

The First four sets were split with the Bruins claiming the second (25-14) and third sets (25-17), while Mohawk took the first (25-18) and fourth (25-17).

In the fifth set, Mohawk led 8-4 at the changeover and was up 14-12 before the Double Blue battled back to win 17-15, with match point punctuated by a Taylor Ley ace.

Sheridan won't have nearly as long to prepare for their next contest, travelling to Humber on Feb. 4 (1pm).
