OSHAWA, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (11-6, 5-4 OCAA) returned to the court for the first time in more than a month, emerging from the Adidas Cup hosted by Durham with a 3-2 record.
The Double Blue advanced to the championship bracket after posting a 2-0 record in pool play, downing both Seneca (25-12, 25-15, 25-16) and Canadore (25-14, 29-27, 25-13) in straight sets.
The Bruins dropped a five-setter (18-25, 23-25, 25-18, 28-26, 18-16) to divisional foe Cambrian - whom Sheridan defeated in their final contest of the first half, also in five sets - to drop into the fifth place bracket.
It's the third time Sheridan and Cambrian have squared off this season - with the Double Blue notching a 3-1 win in the final of the Wannamaker Invitational - with one contest remaining in the penultimate match of the regular season on Feb. 10.
They earned their spot in the fifth place game with a 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18) win over CMU.
They dropped their final match of the tournament against the East Division's second-ranked team in Loyalist, also in five sets (22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 13-25, 15-13)
The Bruins will resume OCAA West play when they host St. Clair on Jan. 13 (4pm).
