OAKVILLE, Ont. - A little less than three days after suffering their first defeat against Humber, the Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (7-1-0 OCAA) bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Cambrian.
"It was a sluggish start and we went through spurts where we were able to create the space we needed, [but] we just couldn't get that pass in the final third for most of the game," head coach Paul Angelini said. "We made a substitution and Trishanna (Wright) coming on gave us the energy we needed, scored a goal and it was a different game after that. They had to chase the game and we were able to hit them on the counter attack in injury time."
Scoreless at the interval, Trishanna Wright checked in just after the hour and made an immediate impact. Kendra Challis got her the ball on the right wing and after taking one touch from the right side of the 18-yard box, she cut the ball back towards the top right corner, where it the crossbar and bounced down into the Cambrian goal.
The Bruins were able to thwart all Cambrian attempts to pull level, and they cemented the victory in second half stoppage time when Zoe Derkach pushed the ball to her left at the top of the area and then blasted it back towards the lower right-hand corner for her 10th tally of the season.
Cassandra Booton made her first start of the season in the Sheridan goal and picked up the clean sheet.
The victory locks the Double Blue into the top-2 of the Central Division which would ensure a home playoff date, if they were unable to catch Humber for the division title.
