Women's soccer blanks Conestoga to remain unbeaten

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (6-0-0 OCAA) shut out Conestoga 3-0, setting up a critical showdown against fellow unbeaten Humber on Oct. 3.

"We got back to playing simple soccer and we did it for the better part of 90 minutes," head coach Paul Angelini said. "We didn't give up any good scoring opportunities and every goal we scored came from something we created."

Laura Ozoria opened the scoring in the 19th minute for the home side and Melaine Jubenville notched her second of the season seven minutes from halftime to put Sheridan in front 2-0 at the interval.

Taylor Baird added the final tally in the 86th minute, cleaning up a rebound that fell to her inside the six, after Zoe Derkach's attempt to get a head on Jessica D'Aguilar's free kick deflected off a Conestoga defender.

Savanna Wood picked up her fourth clean sheet of the season, and has allowed just three goals in six games this year.

The Double Blue are level with Humber on 18 points at the top of the Central Division standings and will travel for the road leg of their season series on Oct. 3 (6:30pm). Humber hasn't conceded a single goal while scoring 36 times this year and Angelini knows they must ___.

"We need to be mentally strong and stick with our system," he said. "We'll see where things go from there."
