Women's soccer complete perfect opening weekend on the road
SUDBURY, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (2-0-0 OCAA) went on the road for a pair of games to open their 2018 campaign and returned with the full compliment of points after wins over George Brown (6-1) and Cambrian (3-0).

"We played really well this weekend, especially considering we're still getting used to certain people being in certain spots and learning to play with one another," head coach Paul Angelini said. "But anytime you can go on the road and come home with a win, it's a good thing. This weekend we managed to do that twice, so we feel good about how we can build from here."

Against George Brown, the Bruins built a 2-0 advantage at the break, and exploded for four more in the second half. Zoe Derkach, who made her Double Blue debut during the winter indoor season, opened her Sheridan account with a brace, while Connie Drennan, Melanie Jubenville, Laura Ozoria, and Makayla Parker rounded out the scoring.

It was a similar story in the Sunday matinee against Cambrian, with a 2-0 lead at the interval. Derkach potted two more, while Jubenville converted her second of the weekend. Savanna Wood wasn't tested often, but turned aside all of the shots she faced to pick up her first clean sheet of the season.

The Bruins will extend their opening road trip to three games, travelling to Conestoga on Sept. 13.

Blue notes: The six goals in the opener was the most by the Bruins since putting up six, also against George Brown, on Oct. 1, 2016.
