Women's soccer falls short of indoor soccer medal

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (11-6-5, 2-3-2 OCAA) were unable to claim an OCAA indoor medal, dropping the semi final to Humber and the bronze medal game to Fanshawe.

"We played well today, we worked hard, [and] in both games we had some unlucky bounces," head coach Paul Angelini said. "We didn't generate very many scoring opportunities this morning [in the semi final], this afternoon [in the bronze medal game] we did, but we didn't put enough away. And that's how the games end."

In the semi final, an early goal by Humber put the Bruins in tough to find the back of the net against a club that would only concede once over the championship's three days, ultimately falling 3-0.

That set up a Pool B re-match against Fanshawe - who were bounced 1-0 by Seneca in extra time of their semi final.

Sheridan trailed 1-0 at the interval and looked to be running out of time, but pulled level on a late second half marker from Zoe Derkach.

They were unable to pull in front or even get the contest into extra time, with Fanshawe notching the eventual game-winner in the final two minutes.

Defender Marianna De Fina was named a Championship All-Star for the Double Blue.
