Women's soccer escape with win on second half stoppage time goal

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - It took a goal in the second minute of second half stoppage time, but the Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (4-3 OCAA) left UTM with a full compliment of three points, after a 1-0 win.

"You can say it was a bit of an ugly win, but it was a win," head coach Paul Angelini said. "There's definitely some things we could have done better and we would have preferred not to leave it until the last minute, but we get to keep the three points, and we will do so gladly."

UTM had the best scoring opportunity of the first half on a partial breakaway, but Savanna Wood came off her line to break up the attack.

In the second half, the Bruins maintained possession of the ball, generating multiple scoring opportunities, but lacking the final touches required to finish any of them.

Georgia Davies supplied the game-winner when she caught UTM keeper Nida Zaidi off her line, stepping into a ball 15-yards inside the UTM half that sailed over Zaidi's head.

The team has a full week off, before hosting Conestoga on Oct. 11 (4:30pm) in their final home game of the year.
