Lady Bruins announce first commit to 2016-17 class

OAKVILLE, Ont. — Less than two weeks since the completion of their bronze-medal indoor season, the Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team are already taking a look towards the fall, announcing today the commitment of midfielder Sabryna Persaud.

"I researched a number of schools both for athletics and their Police Foundations program and felt that Sheridan best fits my wants and needs," said Persaud. "I feel there is great opportunity for success with Sheridan, the support system sounds like it is second to none and I also love the fact that the focus is on academics first."

"We're looking forward to having Sabryna join us next year, we think she can really be a difference maker," head coach Paul Angelini added. "Her speed and her toughness will really help us efficiently attack any opposition and her fitness will allow her to play long stretches at both ends of the field. She also understands that while we absolutely want to compete at the highest levels, athletics is only a small portion of what the Lady Bruin journey looks like."

Persaud is heading into her fourth season as a member of the Darlington Fusion, having won the Ontario Cup and national championship in 2014 and she also previously spent time with the Ontario provincial team and Durham district team.

She has accepted an offer to the Police Foundations program at the Davis Campus in Brampton, and is eager to get started on her career path.

"I believe Sheridan will provide the tools I need for success and help me continue to grow as a student and an athlete," said Persaud. "My goal is to qualify for the Iron Joan program (a volunteer program to assist with at-risk youth) in Police Foundations. This will be a rewarding experience if I succeed and open doors for opportunity in the future."
