Women's soccer earn crucial win over Niagara

OAKVILLE, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (4-2-2 OCAA) ensured they could finish no lower than third in the Central Division after handing Niagara -- the team just beneath them in the standings -- a 2-0 defeat.

"We moved the ball well in spurts, although we went to playing long balls towards the end, which is not really our game," head coach Paul Angelini said. "When we were playing how we want to play -- keeping possession and moving the ball to force the defence to move -- we creating opportunities consistently."

Madison Roberts opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and Viktoria VanZanten provided the Bruins with some insurance, scoring her ninth goal of the season just prior to halftime.

Savanna Wood and Amber Reesor combined to keep the sheet clean for the Double-Blue.

The team will play their final regular season home game when they host Humber on October 15 and despite a 1-0 loss to their rivals on October 4, Angelini says they are well prepared for the showdown.

"I think it's not broken, so we're not going to fix it," he said. "It'll be the same possession soccer, move the ball into space, hope somebody makes a mistake defensively and we're able to exploit it."
