Women's soccer play to draw in season opener

OAKVILLE, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (0-0-1 OCAA) took the lead two minutes in the second half of their season opener against Seneca, but were unable to hang on and settled for a 1-1 draw.

"In many ways, it was very typical of season opener," head coach Paul Angelini said. "We had stretches where we were able to stick with our system and things looked pretty polished. At other times, we were a little scattered. The goal now is move forward by building on our positives and trying to clean up some of those inefficiencies."

In the opening half, Seneca had a 6-2 advantage in shots on target but the game remained scoreless at the interval.

In the 47th minute, Kendra Challis was able to open the scoring for the Lady Bruins, as the sophomore midfielder was able to notch her third career goal in Double-Blue.

Seneca had a pair of quality chances in the form of two free kicks just outside the area, the second one deflecting off the Sheridan wall where Andrea Runco was able to put away the equalizer.

The two sides will have play the second leg of their season series in North York on September 29.

Next up for Sheridan is a trip to George Brown on Saturday, September 17.
