Delas steps down as women’s basketball head coach

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team announced today that head coach Willie Delas has stepped down from his post.

"We want to thank Willie for his commitment and contributions to the Double Blue," varsity basketball coordinator Tahir Khan said. "He has been an extremely valuable member of our intercollegiate staff over the past several years and brought a lot of stability to our women's basketball program."

Delas spent the last six seasons at the helm of the program, guiding the team back into the playoffs this season after a two-year post-season drought.

Once there, Delas' team showed some of the same fighting spirit they had all season.

Despite falling into a 16-point fourth quarter deficit against Durham in their OCAA Championship qualifier, the Bruins nearly climbed all the way back - pulling to within four late - but saw their season end with an 80-74 defeat.

An announcement regarding who will lead the program in 2018-19 and beyond will be made next week.
